What is Softr?

Softr is a hosted app builder for business operations. It brings together a visual interface builder, databases, workflow automation and access controls, so a business can create an internal tool or a portal for clients and partners without managing its own application code.

Common projects include client portals, CRMs, inventory trackers, intranets, knowledge bases and reporting dashboards. The point is to give people an interface suited to their task, rather than expose the underlying spreadsheet or database to everyone.

How Softr works

Start with the AI Co-Builder, a template or the visual editor. The AI option creates an initial database, pages, roles and business logic from a description; the resulting app can still be changed using the visual controls. Softr hosts the app and supplies its standard components.

Data can live in Softr Databases or connected services. Airtable, Google Sheets, Notion, Coda and REST API connections are among the available options. Other connectors, including Supabase, HubSpot and SQL databases, depend on the plan. Workflows handle tasks such as approvals, reminders and record updates, but the included monthly action allowance matters for busy apps.

Permissions are the main plan decision

Do not choose a plan only by its starting price. Pro adds granular permissions and visibility rules. Business adds global data restrictions, two-factor authentication and domain-restricted signup. Enterprise adds SAML/OpenID SSO, SCIM, audit logs and custom agreements.

For a client-facing app, design and test access rules before inviting users. Softr documents previewing an app as a selected user so the builder can check which pages, actions and records are visible. A vendor’s compliance claim does not replace your own review of the data being collected and who can see it.

Pricing and usage limits

On annual billing, the official monthly-equivalent prices are Free $0, Basic $19, Pro $99 and Business $329. Enterprise is custom-priced. Taxes are extra. Every plan includes unlimited apps, databases, workflows, agents and forms, but usage is not unlimited.

• Free: up to three builders, five app users, 5,000 database records, 500 workflow actions per month and five AI credits.
• Basic: one builder, five team and five client users, 50,000 records, 2,500 actions per month and ten AI credits. Additional builders are $5 per month.
• Pro: two builders, ten team and 50 client users, 500,000 records, 10,000 actions per month and 50 AI credits. Additional builders are $10 per month; extra app users start at $1 per month.
• Business: three builders, 30 team and 100 client users, one million records, 25,000 actions per month and 100 AI credits. Additional builders are $20 per month; extra app users start at $2 per month.
• Enterprise: custom limits, governance, integrations and support.

App users are counted by unique email across published apps, while builders do not count toward the app-user allowance. Workflow actions pause when the monthly limit is reached. The official site offers a free signup trial without a credit card but does not state a single trial duration on the pricing page checked.

Where Softr fits, and where it does not

Softr fits a team that wants to own its operational app without hiring a developer for every change. Its native database and workflows can reduce the number of separate tools needed for a modest portal. Existing data sources can also stay in place while Softr supplies the user interface.

The tradeoff is dependence on a hosted platform, its components and its plan limits. A project needing self-hosting, an exported codebase or a native mobile application should check those requirements before committing. Business includes an installable PWA, which is different from a native App Store application.

Company and evidence

Softr’s official About page names Mariam Hakobyan as co-founder and CEO, gives 2020 as the founding year and lists a 60-person remote-first team. Its imprint identifies Softr Platforms GmbH in Berlin, Germany. These are vendor-published facts, not independently audited company records.
