Our verdict

Ferndesk treats stale docs as the problem to solve: an agent compares each help article with your product and drafts updates, including from pull requests. The pricing is a single Pro plan with a 7-day trial and a half-price first year for early-stage startups.

Full review

Ferndesk is a help center product built around one problem: documentation goes stale when the product ships every week. It gives you a normal public help center, plus an agent called Fern that checks each article against your product, spots what changed and drafts the fixes. The homepage says it is trusted by 100+ software teams and lists customers such as RightMessage and ISMS Copilot.

What Fern does

According to the pricing page, Fern checks every article against your product, fixes what changed and drafts what is missing. It can auto-update from every pull request, retake screenshots when the UI changes, run scheduled audits to catch stale docs, and draft from your codebase. The product also includes an in-app widget for AI conversations, one-click migration with URLs preserved, and API and MCP access, so you can manage docs from Claude Code, Cursor or ChatGPT.

Help center features

You get a public help center on your own domain or at /help, custom branding, private or authenticated help centers, white label, five translated languages, five seats, role-based permissions, SSO options such as OIDC and magic links, and 10+ standard integrations.

Pricing

There is one self-serve plan. Pro is $149 a month, or $1,490 a year (two months free), with a 7-day trial and no credit card needed. Companies under $1M ARR and under 10 people can apply for Pro at $75 a month for the first year. Enterprise starts at $399 a month and adds SAML SSO, SCIM, 2,500 conversations a month, custom integrations, a DPA and white-glove onboarding.

Who it's for

Best for

  • SaaS teams that ship often and want their help center to stay accurate without a writer rewriting articles each release.

Not ideal for

  • Large support orgs that need a full ticketing desk
  • or teams that want a free plan
  • since Ferndesk has a trial but no free tier.

How we tested

AppsInsight desk research, 5 October 2026. We read Ferndesk's homepage and pricing page (monthly view). The $124 annual per-month figure is our arithmetic from the listed $1,490 a year. We did not use the product. Customer counts and the 20-hours-a-month savings are Ferndesk's own claims.
