What is ScoutBrief?

AI competitor reports with live web search and weekly change alerts ScoutBrief is a web app for small-business competitor research.

Our verdict

ScoutBrief is a low-cost first pass for small-business competitor research. Source links, a free first report and a 30-day plan make it useful for finding questions to check. Treat its AI claims as leads, not audited facts. We inspected the official demo but did not test a paid report or alerts.

ScoutBrief is a web app for small-business competitor research. Describe what you sell, who buys it and where you operate, then request an AI report about competing businesses, their prices and positioning. The service uses live web search with Anthropic’s Claude model rather than relying only on a model’s stored knowledge.

Its main appeal is a short route from a business idea to questions worth checking. Reports cover competitors, strengths and weaknesses, market opportunities and a plan for the next 30 days. It fits a founder or local business owner looking for a first pass, not a team that needs audited market data or a full sales-enablement platform.

From a description to a research brief

The free snapshot asks for one or two sentences and returns a small competitor overview without an account. Full reports require an account so the output can be saved. Include your city or neighbourhood for local research, and name competitors you already know to make the request more specific. The website says reports follow the language of the input, including English and Bosnian.

A report separates competitor positioning, pricing, social presence, strengths and weaknesses. It also suggests target customers, messaging, pricing and first acquisition channels. The public sample report includes a checklist for the next 30 days. Its competitor names and prices are explicitly invented for demonstration; those examples show the report format, not real market findings.

What verified means here

ScoutBrief says a competitor is marked verified when found in a search result, with a link to that source. When it cannot confirm three real competitors, it describes a representative type instead of inventing a company name. Reports end with a note about what could not be verified.

That is useful provenance, but it is not an audit. A search result can still be stale or incomplete, and the terms warn that generated reports can contain errors about named businesses. Open the source links and check any price, customer claim or recommendation before changing your own pricing or spending money. The tool cannot see private competitor sales figures and does not replace interviews with customers.

Report purchases and ongoing tracking

Every account gets one full report free without a card. After that a single report costs $3, with PDF download or text copying. The $19 monthly subscription includes ten reports per month, unlimited rechecks of tracked businesses and an automatic weekly check with email alerts when competitors change. The public pricing page does not show an annual plan.

Payments go through Paddle, the merchant of record, which handles taxes and currency conversion. Subscriptions renew until cancelled. Cancellation keeps access through the paid period, with no routine prorated refund. For failed, empty or incorrectly billed single reports, the refund policy asks users to contact support within seven days. Disliking a successfully generated report is not itself grounds for a refund.

Inputs and privacy

ScoutBrief is built and run by Rijad Mujić, according to its official About page. The privacy policy covers account information, business descriptions and saved reports. Descriptions are sent to Anthropic for generation, and the policy also names Render for hosting and Paddle for payment processing. Avoid entering confidential client plans or unreleased financial information without considering that processing.

Account and report history are retained while the account is active. Deletion can be requested by email. The policy says it does not sell personal data and uses GoatCounter for anonymized page counts, not third-party advertising cookies. These are published policy commitments, not an independent security assessment or a certification.

AppsInsight assessment

ScoutBrief offers a low-cost starting point for finding competitors and turning public research into next steps. Clear pay-per-report pricing and source links are strengths. Its limits are the reliability of AI output, a small included monthly allowance and less evidence of advanced team workflows than an enterprise competitive-intelligence suite.

This review uses the current official website, pricing, About, privacy, terms and refund policy, plus the public report interface. We inspected the sample UI but did not create an account, pay for a report, test alerts or measure research accuracy. Screenshots show the official demo report with fictional competitors.

Frequently asked questions

Is ScoutBrief free?
The no-signup snapshot is free and new accounts receive one full report without a card. Additional full reports cost $3 each or are included in the $19 monthly subscription.
What does the subscription include?
Ten reports per month, unlimited rechecks of tracked businesses and automatic weekly checks with email alerts. It renews until cancelled; no annual plan is shown publicly.
Does verified mean the report is audited?
No. The official About page says verified competitors were found in a search result with a source link. Generated claims may still be inaccurate. Check sources before making business decisions.
Are the demo competitors real?
No. The public examples explicitly use invented competitors to demonstrate the report format. Their names and prices are not market evidence.
How is my business description used?
It is sent to Anthropic for report generation. The privacy policy names Render hosting and Paddle payment processing. Account details and saved reports remain while the account is active; deletion can be requested by email.
Can I cancel or get a refund?
Subscriptions can be cancelled from the account for the end of the paid period, without routine prorated refunds. Failed, empty or incorrectly billed individual reports should be reported within seven days. Disliking a generated report is not itself refundable.
