What is BillConverter?

Turn UK energy bill PDFs into structured Excel spreadsheets BillConverter extracts data from UK electricity and gas bill PDFs into an Excel workbook.

Our verdict

BillConverter is worth trying when UK energy bills need to become rows in Excel rather than entries in a full accounting package. Two free conversions let an occasional user check whether their supplier's format works, and the £1.99 top-up is a sensible alternative to another subscription.

The strongest documented detail is the two-sheet output with separate tariff periods and day/night rate bands. The limitation is evidence: we have not tested extraction accuracy, and a financial spreadsheet still needs a comparison with the original bill. The website's file-discard claim also needs to be read alongside its 90-day conversion-log retention. Treat it as a focused data-preparation aid, not a source of verified accounting figures.

Full review

BillConverter extracts data from UK electricity and gas bill PDFs into an Excel workbook. Rather than copying figures from each page, you upload a bill and download two sheets: Account Summary and Billing Periods. The first collects account details, dates, payments and the balance. The second separates charge periods, fuel types, tariff rates, meter readings and VAT.

Where it fits

This is a focused extraction tool, not an accounting system or an energy-switching service. It suits people comparing bills in Excel, landlords tracking utility costs and bookkeepers collecting bill data. The website lists British Gas, Octopus Energy, EDF, E.ON, Scottish Power and Ovo among supported suppliers. Supplier coverage is a vendor claim, not a guarantee that every bill layout will parse correctly.

From PDF to workbook

The browser interface offers single-bill upload and a bulk mode. The October 2026 changelog says signed-in users can upload up to 20 files together.

From PDF to workbook

The browser interface offers single-bill upload and a bulk mode. The October 2026 changelog says signed-in users can upload up to 20 files together. It also documents separate day/night rate bands and one row per charge period. Those distinctions matter when a tariff changes partway through a bill. Check the extracted usage, rate, VAT and total against the original before using the workbook for financial decisions.

Price and privacy

The free allowance is two conversions each month without an account. An occasional user can buy 20 conversions for £1.99; the website says these credits do not expire. Unlimited subscriptions cost £4.99 per month or £39.99 per year, with priority support listed for the annual plan.

The privacy policy says uploaded PDFs and extracted personal data are processed in memory and discarded after download. This does not mean the service keeps no records: conversion logs remain for 90 days, guest IP hashes support the monthly limit, and account email addresses and hashed passwords remain while the account is active. Stripe handles payments and the site uses Google Analytics.

Our assessment

The appeal is the output structure, especially separate billing periods and rate bands. It removes a repetitive copying step without asking occasional users to subscribe. Its scope is narrow, however, and the public evidence does not establish extraction accuracy across all suppliers or scanned documents. We inspected the live upload interface, official pricing, privacy policy, changelog and Product Hunt gallery. We did not submit a bill, buy a plan or independently test the Excel output. Gallery images show the vendor’s published workflow and a redacted sample workbook.

Who it's for

Best for

  • UK households comparing energy bills
  • Landlords tracking utilities
  • Bookkeepers preparing bill data in Excel

Not ideal for

  • Non-UK energy bills
  • Full bookkeeping or tax workflows
  • Users needing independently audited extraction accuracy

How we tested

Reviewed the public upload interface, official pricing, privacy policy and October 2026 changelog on October 12, 2026. Inspected vendor-published Product Hunt screenshots showing selected-file upload, conversion progress and a redacted Excel workbook. No bill uploaded, account created, plan bought or extraction accuracy test performed.

What's new

October 2026 v1.1 adds signed-in bulk upload of up to 20 files, separate day/night rate bands, period-level charge rows and a two-sheet Excel workbook.
